This argument contends that science may not be the right approach to solving the problems of humanity. The writer's main argument is that science discounts spirituality and personal expression. Science and technology are touted as the future of mankind. Science will resolve the eternal questions of life, the purpose of existence, and the roots of man. Science will explain any complexity and ultimately resolve almost any unknown eliminating the need for spiritualism and the emotional uncertainty that has so long plagued the existence of humanity. However, as Lopez indicates, "the impersonality of statistics masks both the complexity and the ethic inherent in any...situation" (323), and science often falls very short of discovering the true nature of its subject under study.
