James Joyce and Gabriel Conway: A Comparative Anaylsis of Similarities
This four page undergraduate papers examines the similarities between James Joyce and Gabriel Conway, a character in Joyce's short story, The Dead. The author notes that a comparison of the character trait similarities between James Joyce and his fictional character Gabriel Conway reveals a consistent characterization pattern in Joyces fiction, for they share the same intelligence, thinking patterns, and animosity towards their homelands. The Dead demonstrates that many of the characters in Joyces novels were based upon his own personality, experiences, and perspectives, as the protagonists in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Dubliners, and Ulysses have demonstrated.
