Certainly, the United States is a true melting pot of cultures from around the world. One would be hard-pressed to find a nationality, culture, religion, or ethnicity not represented within this melting pot called America. However, each of these cultures interacts with the larger melting pot culture in different ways. Language, music, economics and politics are all basic ways in which cultures are celebrated, represented or in which they interact. This essay will take a look at some of these categories and use them as a ground for comparing and contrasting the Irish culture to that of the overall mainstream American culture. In the end, one would be apt to find the Irish culture more loyal to its traditions and patriotic to its origins than most of mainstream America.
