Given the importance of energy conservation to each one of us as well as to our planet as a whole, we should each learn how to measure and assess how we use energy in our own households. However, while most of us of course know that houses and apartments have electrical meters, but few of us have ever learned to read them. This paper presents the results of a small experiment carried out in learning how to read and understand a domestic electrical meter and how an individual can use this knowledge to become a better educated energy consumer. The exact measurements that were taken during this experiment are documented in the accompanying diagram.
