This paper edits a write-up on the National Beta Club, a write-up whcih begins as follows: "The purpose of the National Beta Club is to promote academics, service, character, and leadership among elementary and secondary school students and to encourage and assist students in continuing their education after high school. To belong to the Beta Club means promoting a sense of belonging, Membership also involves positive peer recognition. The Beta Club acknowledges social and community responsibility and builds self-worth. Members of the Beta Club learn that leadership is a commitment, not a position, and that through this leadership service members build character."
