Police Deviance and Misconduct: A Sociological Perspective
This paper shall examine the issue of police deviance and misconduct. Rather than focusing on the obvious instances of brutality, this paper takes a wider perspective, analyzing other instances of police misconduct such as violation of due process, unlawful searches and seizures, and the use of intimidation tactics to silence political protest. Using social conflict theory, it becomes apparent that police misconduct is a systemic problem that is actually used to reinforce the existing power structure and keep those classes in power.
