This three page undergraduate essay examines global responses to American popular culture. In comparing sources, it is evident that even though American fast food franchises have been established in dozens of foreign countries, much of the world is not as impressed by American popular culture as Americans are. This is not surprising, for despite the fact that McDonaldÂ’s and other American mass consumption icons have attained a degree of acceptance in places as culturally remote as China, their presence also conveys the negative aspects of American culture that many people resent and reject.
